December 19, 2009 The Villages is one of the most famous active adult communities in the world. Theirs was a good naming decision since the word "village" is often used generically with retirement or 55+ communities. We searched our database here at Topretirements and found more than 50 of our 700 communities use the word "village" (five used the plural form, "villages"). This week's theme is a sampling of 3 very different 55+ communities that call themselves "Villages". Air Force Villages - Texas There are actually 2 different communities offered by Air Force Villages in San Antonio. One is urban oriented and the other toward the country hills. Both are high end continuing care communities oriented toward retired military officers and their spouses. The Villages -Florida This is the one in Ocala you've heard so much about with 60,000 residents; a dazzling number of country clubs; 2 golf cart families; and every conceivable activity, club, and amenity under the Florida sun. The Villages at Lynx Creek - Arizona This Villages is located near beautiful Prescott, Arizona. Although Prescott tends to be a bit pricey, this community of manufactured homes is relatively low priced. Dozens of activities are available, so are rentals. About these listings: Topretirements encourages active adult and 55+ communities to create their own listings on this site.
